Gift Scavenger Hunt Clues: Six Original Notes

Use six original gift scavenger hunt clues with an exact placement key. Follow a home route, choose a one-table version or give a remote riddle reveal.

Six-note gift trail through sofa, books, table, coat and mirror

A gift scavenger hunt needs a working chain: each clue leads to the place holding the next one, and the last clue leads to a gift that is already ready. Below is a complete original six-clue route using a sofa, books, a table, a coat, a mirror and a gift bag.

You can copy the clue text onto small notes or read it aloud. The placement instructions are for you, the giver. Keep those separate from the clues you hand over.

Set the route before hiding the notes

Choose familiar places the recipient can comfortably reach. The whole route can stay in one small area. Hallmark's gift scavenger-hunt guide starts with choosing the area and listing locations in order; that makes it easier to put each next clue in the right place.

For this route, put the gift in a closed bag or box labelled For you. Choose a place for it within the area you are using, away from the other clue notes. Have the actual gift, card, recording or confirmed booking ready before starting.

You need six small notes, something to write with and the finished gift. Number the clues on the back to help you check the order. Use shared, clear surfaces and reachable spots; none of these clues requires opening a private drawer, climbing or searching inside an appliance.

Six original clues, with the placement key

Route: hand over Clue 1 → sofa → books → dining table → coat → mirror → the bag or box marked For you.

Clue 1: Start with a soft seat

You do: hand this clue to the recipient. Put Clue 2 on the sofa seat.

My cushions have heard plenty of conversations. Find your next note on the soft seat where we settle in.

Answer: the sofa.

Clue 2: Find the closed covers

You do: put this on the sofa. Put Clue 3 beside the books on a low shelf or table.

My covers open worlds while my spines stay in line. Find your next note where stories wait to be read.

Answer: the books.

Clue 3: Go where the plates gather

You do: put this beside the books. Put Clue 4 on the table where you eat.

Your next stop has a place for plates and a seat for you. Find the note where meals gather people.

Answer: the dining table.

Clue 4: Visit something ready to go out

You do: put this on the table. Put Clue 5 beside a coat on an accessible hook or chair.

I have sleeves but cannot give a hug. Your next note waits beside what you put on for a trip outside.

Answer: the coat.

Clue 5: Follow the reflection

You do: put this beside the coat. Put Clue 6 next to the mirror.

I copy your smile and keep none of it. Find your last clue beside the place that sends your reflection back.

Answer: the mirror.

Clue 6: Find the gift

You do: put this beside the mirror. The finished gift is in the bag or box labelled For you.

You have followed the notes; the last thing to do is find the gift with the label “For you.”

Answer: the labelled gift.

Check the chain once

Walk it in the same order before inviting the recipient. Clue 1 must send you to Clue 2, not to another copy of Clue 1. Continue until Clue 6 leads to the gift.

If a clue could point to several places, make the location clear. You could change “the soft seat” to “the blue sofa” or “the books” to “the books by the window,” if that describes your home. Keep the same destination when changing the words.

Stay nearby to offer a straightforward hint. The gift can be given whenever the person wants it; the hunt does not have to become a test they must pass.

A one-table version when a room trail does not suit

Use six envelopes or folded notes labelled Sofa, Books, Table, Coat, Mirror and For you. Put them together on a table. The objects do not need to be present.

  • Sofa holds Clue 2.
  • Books holds Clue 3.
  • Table holds Clue 4.
  • Coat holds Clue 5.
  • Mirror holds Clue 6.
  • For you holds the gift or the finished card explaining it.

Hand over Clue 1 with this introduction: “Each clue points to a word on an envelope. Open that one to find the next clue.” The recipient can follow the same six clues without searching around the home.

If you are giving the gift remotely

Use the six clues as a short riddle reveal, rather than pretending you have hidden things in a home you have not prepared. On a call, read one clue at a time and let the person say which object it describes. You can read the labels at the start if they would prefer an easier version.

After the last clue, send the gift file or listening link through the method you already use together. Have it ready before the call and check that it opens as intended. You can also skip the riddles and send the final note directly.

Finish with words that explain the gift

Here is an original note you can use with the final bag, envelope or digital gift:

You found it. I chose this for you, and I hope you enjoy it. The little trail was part of the giving; you can open the gift in your own time.

If the final gift is a song you have made, this finished note gives it a clear introduction:

The last clue brings you to a song about us. I chose a few memories I wanted to keep in words and music. Open the listening link when you have a moment. We can listen together if you would like.

Use the song note only when that is the actual gift. Put the working listening link with it. An ordinary wrapped present, handwritten letter or confirmed experience can be the ending too.

Questions about a gift clue trail

Do I need a gift at every stop?

No. This route has one gift at the end. Each earlier stop only needs the next clue.

Can I use it for a birthday or anniversary?

Yes. Keep the route that fits your space and put the occasion in the final card. The clues do not need a separate version for every age or relationship.

What if I do not have one of the objects?

Use the one-table version, which only needs the written labels. For a room trail, choose a replacement destination and change both the clue that points there and the placement of the following note.

What if they would rather open the gift straight away?

Give them the gift. The notes can be an optional extra to read together afterwards.

If you want an original song at the finish

A personal song can be the final gift when the recipient would enjoy music about your shared memories. Start a personal Songbond song and share the recipient, memories and music preferences in the song quiz, then review the current options. Have the finished recording and your playback method ready before planning its reveal.
