Two Little Heartbeats

We went in for the pictures, squeezed hands like you do. The doctor moved the little wand and smiled before she spoke. She said, "There's the heartbeat — strong as morning rain." Then she laughed and moved an inch and said, "Well — there's another one." Two little heartbeats! Count 'em — one and two. Twice the socks and twice the midnight, twice the wishes coming true. We were gonna tell you gently — there's no gentle way to say: two of everything is on the way. Two names to argue over — no wait — four, first and middle, twice. Two chairs at the table, one stunned look on Daddy's face. The nursery plan just doubled, so did every plan we had. Funny how a heart makes room — ours just built a wing. Two little heartbeats!
